India | Sangita Ministries
This trip offers the opportunity to work with our North Coast Calvary Chapel partner, Sangita Ministries, an organization in India that is caring for orphans and widows and empowering under-resourced women. The purpose of the trip will be to host a camp for kids at the orphanage in Chennai and in the surrounding village. No prior experience required and training will be provided.
Cost: $3500 per person (this includes flights and travel insurance, lodging and in country transportation, food and supplies) SUBJECT TO CHANGE
Location: Chennai, India
Age: 18+
Required prior to travel: Cross cultural training provided by North Coast Calvary Chapel. Monthly team meetings (Mar-July / dates and times TBD).
Trip will be led by Kate Bartels and Megan Roper.
Optional NON-NCCC extension with Kate Bartels: Flight to Andhra Pradesh for a visit to second orphanage and rural hospital with Christian doctor, alongside a personal visit to orphanage founders' adult daughter who will be about to give birth to twins. There will also be a special time to meet with and encourage some rural village pastors who are working under very difficult and complex conditions. Next flight is to Jaipur to visit Hindu driver's family in honor of son’s wedding. Jaipur sightseeing will include the Monkey Temple, a view of the Wind Palace, and the Amber Fort. Make way to Delhi via Agra for a quick stop at Taj Mahal. Dates and details of extended travel are coming, but the extension will take about a week, to make it a 2 week trip total. This portion of the trip is a hybrid...it is a combo of "nice" and "tough" accommodations, fun sightseeing, and reaching out the church body in India.

Requirements
Prerequisites
- Cross-cultural training provided by NCCC. Monthly team meetings (Mar-July / dates and times TBD).
- Passport with at least 6 months left on it before expiring and purchase of an Indian "e-visa"
- A flexible, easygoing, and adventurous personality as much of this trip will be challenging! The heat and humidity will be extreme, the poverty everywhere, the chances for last second schedule changes high. It will be intense...but wonderful. So if you are an anxious traveller, you may not want to choose this trip at this time. Reach out if you want to discuss! :)
Responsibilities
- Participating in group and individual fundraising. Group fundraising includes garage sale in May or June and NCCC bake sale on Sunday, May 19.
Restrictions
- 18 years old or older
- (in very specific circumstances we may waive the age minimum...reach out to Kate at 760-889-6062 for more info)
Preparation
- Calendar bake sale and garage sale fundraisers (garage sale date TBA)
- Research travel shots you might need for India! Talk to your doctor, a travel immunizations clinic, or the CDC for information. I (Kate) chose to get immunized for typhoid and I updated my tetanus. I took malaria pills my first two trips, but haven't on others.
- Disseminate your fundraising page...the more you raise, the more we can do and the more we can help some younger people who have fewer financial resources, but who want to come.
- Begin praying for each team member by name, for Paul and Grace at Sangita, and for the kids and others we will be working with.
